Poor’s Contribution to Natural Resources Conservation and Management: The Potentials in Bangladesh

The poor are often naively blamed for over exploitation and destruction of natural resources. This is not true; rather they conserve the natural resources. Millions of poor in Bangladesh take various livelihood supports in the forms of food and nutrition, employment and income generation, fodder, fuel and subsistence from natural resources. LDCs need to "own" policies to use aid more effectively

Growth, Poverty and the Terms of Development Partnership was the theme of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) Report 2008 published  by the United Nations   Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). On behalf of the UNCTAD, CPD launched the  report on 17 July 2008. D.Net Completes First Phase of the Global Research on Impact of ICTs

In December 2008, D.Net has successfully completed the first phase of the international research project on 'Investigating the Social and Economic Impact of Public Access to Information and Communication Technologies'.

D.Net joined this international research collaboration initiated by International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The project is managed by telecentre.org in partnership with the Center for Information & Society at the University of Washington Information School.

SOCIOECONOMIC RESEARCH IN BRAC

Development interventions that aim to effectively bring about meaningful change in the lives of the poor are often too late in the life cycle. Hence tar¬geting a younger population is important for greater return and sustainability of poverty alleviation programmes. BRAC addresses this issue with two broad sets of interventions for adolescents.
